About the Book
Unspoken Words About Carlos Castaneda is a collection of radio and press interviews and lectures by Carlos Castaneda, published in various publications and media outlets between 1968 and 1998. The collection has been compiled and presented in Persian for the first time through the translation and editorial work of Davood Mahzadeh.
This book is the result of the translator’s effort to bring together conversations in which Castaneda discussed his teachings, experiences, and perspectives at different stages of his life and career. Read alongside his published books, these interviews offer another way to explore his ideas and follow the development of his intellectual journey.
The material is arranged in chronological order of publication, rather than by thematic importance. This allows readers to follow changes and developments in Castaneda’s views and interpretations over time and to become familiar with different stages of his intellectual path.
In preparing this collection, certain passages from lengthy interviews—including repetitive questions and overlapping material—have been omitted to keep the book focused and manageable in length. Repeated material appearing across different conversations has also been reduced, with the aim of bringing lesser-known and noteworthy aspects of Castaneda’s statements into clearer focus.
At the end of the book, two interviews with Taisha Abelar and Florinda Donner are included in an appendix. The volume also contains a brief glossary of selected terms related to Toltec tradition and culture.
One of the collection’s distinctive features is that it offers a broad overview of Castaneda’s intellectual journey across an extended period, from his early interviews following the publication of his first works to the later years of his career. In this respect, the book may provide readers familiar with Castaneda’s writings and the teachings attributed to Don Juan Matus with a new perspective from which to examine his views.
Unspoken Words About Carlos Castaneda may be of particular interest to readers of Castaneda’s works, researchers, and anyone wishing to explore not only his books but also his interviews and statements published across various media outlets.
